Steve Levinson has always loved the beauty of
Carousels, even from childhood.
A recent visit to the Binghamton area, which has
six carousels,inspired this
exhibit. The amazing beauty of the horses
and other animals is a
testament to the creativity of the carvers,
many of which were made
at the Allen Herschell Company in nearby
Tonawanda, New York.
The show features carousels from Binghamton,
Tonawanda,
Cooperstown, Colorado, Boston, Syracuse, Albany
and
of course Rochester. The photographs were
made to isolate the beauty
of this menagerie of
whimsical figures; portraits showing the
handiwork
of craftsmen over the years.
